Engaging little ones in a healthy way proves to be a more difficult task than one would think! A few pans and spatula’s will do the trick for the wee ones, however as my children grow older, I find that I am at a loss when it comes to engaging products that don’t require a blue screen. Our girls are now 4 and 7, and when we were contacted by Tek Nek Toys to check out their line of Rockin’ Rider rideable spring horses, I was hesitant that they would even be interested.
Boy, was I wrong!
We had the opportunity to check out Lacey, the talking, singing spring horse that even has a moving mouth. DH wasn’t home when I decided to un-box this little beauty alone, so it was up to me to put Lacey together, while two little people stared at me with anticipation.
Lacey came in a large box, however I was surprised at how light the box was. There was not too much that needed to be assembled other than the steel base and the springs that needed to be attached to Lacey in order to make her ready for rocking. I typically push off all builds to DH, so I’m technically considered a rookie when it comes to putting any product together, and just a few screws and springs later, I had Lacey up and rockin’ in about 30 minutes flat! I later learned that as an added feature, Tek Nek Toys has made an assembly video that walks you right through the assembly process, however I found the paper instructions very easy to follow and rookie experts like me have no use for a video, right? RIGHT?
Yes, yes I was proud of my accomplishment.
I was thrilled to see that Tek Nek Toys included spring covers to ensure the safety of the product, and we found the base to be quite steady. This product is technically rated for ages 2-5 years, however it has a weight limit of 65lbs, so even our 7 year old is able to ride this pony. Lacey herself, is very soft and made from premium plush, and makes motion-activated galloping sounds, as well as 8 talking phrases and sound effects that play while her little mouth moves. As you can imagine, our 4 year old went nuts over this feature!
3 AAA batteries are included with Lacey, so she works right out of the box, however the most delightful feature about Lacey is that our girls absolutely adore her. I’ve had to set a timer multiple times a day so that they can take turns riding her. There’s no television….no computer…just two little girls using their imaginations while they ride away on this adorable spring pony. Oh, and parents….there’s a parental volume control, as well as an on/off switch. She’s also very lightweight and can be easily moved from room to room. Double score!
To say we are BIG FANS would be an understatement!

oh my gosh they still make these?!? I remember having one as a kid. I would love to get one for my daughters!
My only problem with it and my only wish: Had something to cover the springs 🙁 I would hate for their little fingers to get caught in there.

The long, white spring looking pieces in the picture are spring covers… they go all the way around 🙂

This is an upgrade of the old school pony I had back in the day like this, you know those ones that looked like “real” horses? OMG My DD would have LOVED this when she was little and I bet my 3 yr old would LOVE the boy version for sure. Love the selections on their website.

That is a huge weight limit for such a fun toy. It’s super cute too. Both of my kids would love it. Great review!
