Very nice laminator,

This review is from: Swingline GBC Laminator, Inspire, Thermal, 9 inch Max Width, Quick Warm-Up (1701855) (Office Product)I've never used a heat laminator before but that wasn't a problem. I make and sell handmade paper with wildflowers and grasses embedded. I've been wanting to make bookmarks but the paper alone, although thick, wouldn't wear well with lots of handling and bending. When this laminator was offered at a low price as one of Amazon's Lightning Deals I gave it a chance.
The bookmarks are about 2" wide and approximately 8-1/2" long. Length varies because there is a deckle edge on the top and bottom of each bookmark. Thickness also varies between card stock and cardboard thicknesses, and some of the embedded flora can be thick and uneven.
I put the bookmarks into the laminating pouch horizontally. Using letter sized pouches I was able to easily get four bookmarks in each one with plenty of space between. I had no problem feeding the pouch through the laminator, and it went through evenly and consistently. After laminating, I used a paper cutter to cut the... Read more

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)I have used way too many laminators at various jobs, and this one is definitely the best I've used yet. It far exceeded my expectations. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
It gets the job done with a maximum of quality and a minimum of frustration, which is what you really need from a laminator. It powers on quickly. It performs reliably. It can handle heavy stock paper in the pouch without flinching. It doesn't take up a lot of room. If you're using this in a production environment, such as laminating badges at a conference, it's going to be the thing that you don't have to call the one expert in the room for, the thing that gives you the least headaches, because it's easy to use and it works.
Three caveats if this is your first laminator, and this is true of all laminators. First, there will be an odd peice of cardboard in the box. Don't throw it out. You need to run it through the machine 2 or 3 times after every use in order to clean it. Gunking is... Read more

Works well when it works...but then FAILED,

This review is from: Swingline GBC Laminator, Inspire, Thermal, 9 inch Max Width, Quick Warm-Up (1701855) (Office Product)We've used this laminator for less than 6months (used ~1/week). For the first 3 months, it worked well. No issues with bubbles, separating sheets, or anything. We thought it was a great purchase - other than the amount of time it takes to heat up before we could laminate.
However, around the 4th month of use, it started curling the upper right edge. Then it started to bend the right edge and would laminate it so that it was bent and creased at the corner. Then it started to get stuck to the heating element inside and we'd have to slowly pull out the sheet and try again. It would work ok every now and again, but today it FAILED completely. It got stuck, rolled up inside the machine, made a ton of noise and stopped working. We had to take the machine completely apart to slowly remove the laminated sheet layer by layer, as it was rolled up around the heating roller.
Do yourself a favor if you're planning to use it for your business or your project that may need careful... Read more
