If you have a child who loves Barbie, you are truly in trouble when she sees this and wants it. I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and she was thrilled. I had the old 1980s version of the Barbie Dream House which I clearly remember as being of much higher quality and easier to put together.

Putting this together was an exercise in frustration, and 24 hours later, it's still frustrating. Pieces don't fit together, some outright broke while trying to assemble it. I finally got it together ONLY after finding a video on YouTube because the instructions could not possibly have been any less helpful. After getting it together I had to let my daughter alone to do the stickers because I was so frustrated. Pieces keep popping off. And now the elevator has come disassembled, and the only way I could fix it was to actually cut the string, take it all out and re-tie the knot in it, which has made the string a touch too short. My daughter is being very good natured about all... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Warning, Severe Assembly Ahead - But Tons of Fun Later!, January 9, 2015

Buying this house has been a real experience for my wife and me. At first we wanted it to be a surprise but this thing is massive, so big and heavy that it cannot be packed into any box so it ships on its own box, everybody can see it is a Barbie House. Shipping it to one of our work places was an option but then the mail-room guy will probably hate you, and then you have to carry it to your car, then to your home, etc, a lot of work. So, if you want it to be a surprise, consider it is something really hard to achieve

Second, the humongous box contains just about 25% of the house, the rest is scattered around in plastic bags with no numbers or identification whatsoever (in contrast like Lego does for example) and no apparent logical distribution of the pieces in the bags. Accompanied to it comes a sheet of decals and a scant two pages instructions "book" that honestly is a shame, you will never assembly this house correctly by following those instructions. At least... 1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it., December 25, 2014

This was, without a doubt, the most difficult thing I have ever built in my life. After reading other reviews, many are comparing their experiences as similar to putting together items purchased at IKEA. That's not the case here. I LOVE IKEA. I love their products and I especially enjoy putting the products together.

This was worse....far worse than I had ever anticipated. I figured, since it was "mostly" put together, the build could wait until Christmas Eve.
I wouldn't recommend that.
If you are ready to purchase this product, put together a few days in advance. It will save you time, tears and pure, unadulterated frustration.

Now, onto the actual unboxing. Expect millions of smallish sized plastic parts strewn across your floor and try really, really hard not to cry. The pillars, should you screw up the placement of them (say, snapping in the upper level without ensuring the slider mechanism thingy is in its correct placement), will take a blood... Read more
