Earth Day is quickly approaching, and although we try to be green on a daily basis, we wanted to go the extra mile this year. Which is why we recently joined forces with Nickelodeon, the National Wildlife Federation, and The Motherhood, to become State Leaders for B Kind 2 Earth Day! B Kind 2 Earth Day is a simple idea to promise to do at least one kind thing for the earth on Earth Day – Friday, Aprill 22nd, and encourage others to do the same.
Now I’m going to encourage you.
Going green is the way of our future. There’s a number of earth friendly things that you can do right now to help make B Kind 2 Earth Day count, such as pledging to say no to plastic bags! An estimated 100 billion plastic shopping bags are used each year within the USA alone, according to the Wall-Street Journal. What’s more, is that these plastic bags end up in landfills, rivers, streams, and the ocean, where animals can ingest them or become entangled in them.
That’s not cool.
This is just one of thousands of examples, to show you that our Earth and the beings living on it, are suffering. It’s time that we stand up for our earth and pledge to help it, not hurt it. Below are a few ideas to get you started:
– Pledge to use re-usable shopping bags rather than plastic
– Carpool
– Support your local farmers
– Fix leaky faucets
– Unplug your electronics when not in use
– Switch to fluorescent light bulbs
– Skip the bottled water
– Plant a tree
My Pledge
I pledge to use re-usable shopping bags (because heaven knows that I have far more than one person could ever need), rather than plastic. I even promise to walk back out to my car if I forget to bring them in the first time. I also promise to “shut down” my home for 1 hour each week and take a walk with my kids.
How You Can Get Involved
If you will be joining us on our journey to Be Kind 2 the Earth, then please head over and LIKE the Be Kind 2 Earth Day Facebook Page, and leave a comment on their wall, letting them know what YOU will be doing to help the planet on Earth Day! Remember, Be Kind 2 Earth Day is April 22nd, and we hope that you and your family will put their thinking caps on and come up with some great ideas of how to be kind to the earth!
Happy Almost Earth Day!
