Ahhhh Spring!  The season of flowers cleaning is now upon us and it’s time to reorganize those closets and clean those floors!  I always start with the closets, move to the medicine cabinets, and then lay into the floors and walls.  Yes, the walls need cleaning too!

  21. Its the first nice day where I can open the windows and doors thats prompts me.. I see all the dust and blahh from winter. So I start with the fans and work my way down. Hubby tackles one room and I’ll do another and the kiddo needs to do her own. The poor vacuum get abused when we clean with 2 cats and a hamster.

  24. My spring cleaning usually by cleaning out closets getting rid of and donating clothing we don’t need. I really try to de clutter everything, cabinets etc. Then I will usually take all the curtains down and wash them etc…

I vaccum every night so my house stays somewhat clean I have terrazzo floors throughout the whole house and the sand that gets tracked in does not feel good on the bottom of your bare feet so I have to plus we have allergies and we dont have any clutter either my friends say I have ocd I just say no I hate dirt ..

  46. I get motivated by putting on some good music – I usually start by throwing out as much as possible first, then work my way from the top to the bottom, always leave floors til last because the dirt from dusting etc will just get all over the floor

  55. I pick a warm sunny day, open up the windows, put on my favorite music(a little loud) and start at the top of the house, room by room, working my way down the stairs to the main floor and finally end up in the garage. Thanks for the fantastic giveaway.

  71. The nice weather is my motivation. With the nice weather we start outside cleaning the windows and work our way inside, from front to back. I get the kids involved by doing cleaning games with them. They get special prizes at the end for the good jobs that they do.

  82. The sun returning motivates me to start the spring renewal cleaning. I start with the wardrobes . Chocolate and coffee are generally needed to keep me motivated (that could be included in tricks for spring cleaning). I’ve found that vinegar and baking soda mixed are very effective bathroom tile cleaners. silenttributary at yahoo dot com

  107. I start with the top and work my way down. So far, I have gotten all of my light fixtures and the tops of the cabinets in our kitchen done…pulled out fridge and stove and done about half our screens and windows. We are motivated by kids growing out of old clothes and needing their closets cleaned for the season. Next will be a garage sale and after that will work on carpet cleaning. The kids are cleaning out under their beds so we can remove the mattress and boxsprings to vac under the beds good. It is undaunting and it takes a lot to motivate us, but with dust and other allergies with kids, we dont have much choice but to keep up after it.

  128. My cleaning starts with organizing. I clean out closets, drawers, cabinets, etc. I throw away stuff and sort out items for a garage sale. This always makes it easier for me to go back and just clean (dusting, picking up, etc.). Less stuff to clean = easier, quicker cleaning.

  138. windows come first- cleaning the outside, undoing the windows from winter storms…then closets…am trying to get to a point where there is not alot to go thru for spring cleaning and it becomes easier to find and go thru things

  163. Well, this year what has motivated me to get a head start on Spring cleaning is the flooding we had from heavy rains (not typical this time of year) and, as a result, a spider infestation! I can handle the flooding, but not the spiders. UGH! I don’t really have any tricks, but we do abide by the rule of donating or selling an item if we buy an item. It really reduces our clutter and makes it easy to clean, as well as allows us to not have a ton of stuff in storage.

  191. Spring cleaning starts in my closets (yes, I have more than one!)… My motivation is purely “out with the old and in with the new”. You can’t buy new clothes if you don’t have room for them 😉

  194. I deep clean all the floors, fan blades, cabinet and fridge tops, bathrooms, closets, windows and beds. Beat the rugs, turn and clean the mattresses, switch out quilts and comforters and OPEN THE WINDOWS! Where do you start? I start first by opening the house wide, and cleaning the windows. Then I tackle the floors, the need becomes quite apparent when the grunge from the windows lets in light to see what I’ve been walking on. Desperation is my biggest motivator, I feel closed up and the carpets drive me crazy! As soon as I can, I clear everything out. I like multi-use cleaners, such as vacuums that go from one floor type to another, that have tools to clean drapes and allow me to do multiple jobs at once. I avoid harsh chemicals, having discovered they aren’t ‘better’ but sure make you sneeze/cough/hack your way through the day. A good bottle of vinegar, some old newpaper and you’ve got shiny windows! Vinegar helps get rid of a lot of buildup. Lemon juice is so good getting rid of grease, and smells so much better than some of the more popular cleaners. Cut a lemon in half and scrub the counter and stove with it. You’ll be amazed! Cheap, healthy and efficient! Nice giveaway! Good luck everyone!!

  221. hit a threshold and must clean – usually the cobwebs hanging off the ceiling seal the deal. start there and work my way around the house. takes weeks and then I have to start all over. Serious dust condo so takes a lot of work.

  239. I look around my house right before Easter and realize how dirty it is. The first thing I do is rip down my curtains and give them a good washing. Then I wipe down the walls. That in itself gives the house a much brighter look.

  256. Spring cleaning is a rewarding, especially if you start with your closets and give lots of “stuff” to Goodwill or Disabled Veterans. It feels good to help others while cleaning and clearing out clutter. the last thing i do is vacuum for that “polished” look!!!

    start by going thru all my clothes if it doesnt fit or i dont wear it gets donated.
    im not to good at keeping things organized but i really want to start we are moving this month and the clutter is not comming with us. so this weekend is going to be all about getting rid of the things we dont need. My tip for cleaning is get a good play list of music together i find blasting some music when i am cleaning will keep me pumped up and cleaning for hours haha just get in the groove ya know …

  270. I really don’t do spring cleaning the way my mom did it growing up. The reason I’d that I am disabled and in able to. I do have someone come in to take the curtains down to be cleaned. The windows get cleaned. Then the game is on. Cob webs destroyed, furniture moved floor cleaned behind and under. And so on..,,

  374. I start spring cleaning @ the top, and go to the bottom- start with molding up by the ceiling, dust curtain rods, wash curtains, and keep going until I hit the floor- I do bedrooms first, then living areas, kitchen and bathrooms are last!

  376. Sunny weather is what kicks in my spring cleaning. I always seem to start in the kitchen and work my way upstairs. I probably start with the kitchen because the sun really shines through and I can see any and all dust bunnies. My secret tip is that I use the fluffy car hand scrubbers to dust my television and shelving. It works better than a regular duster or cloths.

  377. I don’t really have any great tips, I feel like I am just always one step behind my crazy toddlers and their messes! I guess my only tip is to make a list and check stuff off so you feel accomplished – but don’t make it too long or you will discourage yourself!

  390. My spring cleaning is always a work in progress. I rarely take the time to do everything at once. Instead I break the house into smaller parts and try to get it done over the course of 3-4 weeks. I’m currently working in the bathrooms.

  398. I organize, organize, organize! I live by “A place for everything; Everything in it’s place.” Every spring (and a few other times each year), I sort through all the stuff that accumulates in my house and put it where it belongs or get rid of it. Once that is done, I can do a deep cleaning everywhere else. And I suggest opening the blinds or curtains, and cleaning the windows first. Sunlight and fresh air are great motivators.

  404. I start in one corner of the room and work my way around. I completely do one room per day from top to bottom, including the garage. My grandmother and her immaculate house are my inspiration, I wish fine just like her. I use homemade cleaners wherever possible to avoid chemicals.

  419. I start upstairs with my spring cleaning. with the bedrooms, linen closet, and bathroom. Then I work my way downstairs to the living room dining room & kitchen. The spring weather is what really motivates me. I wash walls, linens, get rid of clothes,take winter clothes to the basement. I usually do touch up painting as needed.

  433. I hate to say it, I’m just now starting to get motivated. I live in NW Ohio and the weather can be really bad. I love cleaning out all of my kitchen shelves and old food. Oh and nothing like cleaning out the damp basement!

  447. My kids help me with spring cleaning we throw on some music and we work together. The best part is going through toys and clothes. We give everything to the local Boys and Girls Town. It feels great to help kids who have absolutely nothing and we get rid of clutter! win-win!

For my spring cleaning, I love using homemade or Mrs Meyer’s cleaning products (they smell great!) and I love to open the windows and let the breeze in while i clean! 🙂 Honestly, I clean the same way all year….but in the spring, I can focus on the outside of the windows and around my homestead!

  466. I start spring cleaning by opening up the shades to get natural light in and turning on music! Then I declutter and pick up odds and ends before getting “down and dirty.” I have two inside dogs so vacuuming is a daily chore. And my old vacuum has practically bit the dust.   477. What I usually do is start with the smallest room in the house and clean it first. Then the next room I clean is the second smallest room and then I work my way up to the largest room. It takes me a while to get into my spring cleaning mode, but by starting with the smallest room, I feel a sense of accomplishment that I have a room done so it motivates me to do the next one and the next one, etc. I just don’t remind myself that the one that I have last is the largest room because by the time I get to that one all of the others are already clean so it does not seem to be as big of a task then.

  478. My Spring cleaning starts with the windows…. we are couped up all winter, so I open and clean every bit of the windows. Next I hit the kitchen and most of the time I end up donating lots of items. My trick is to not try to do too much at once… or I’ll burn out.

  531. My spring cleaning habits are not very good! I do not get to things in a timely fasion. What does get me motivated though is to start a small project (cleaning out a junk drawer for example) and then I get into a “mood” and become more rejuvinated! My trick I do is that I make my own bleach water and cleaning solution-it is much cheaper than buying it!!

  628. If you ask me, I’m one of the smart ones… I hire a company to clean our house every spring. It costs about $300 and its worth every cent because they do a fantastic job and I get to just relax all day (it takes 2 people about 6 hours to do the whole house including windows, floors, walls, fans, counters, carpets, furniture, windows, etc.) Seriously, its probably the best money I spend all year and it comes from change that I collect thru the rest of the year in my “spring cleaning jar”
