We moved into our home five years ago and one of the features of the house that I loved, was a large square framed area above the fireplace. The possibilities were really endless with what I could put in the framed area and because it’s the center of the living room, it had to be perfect. I had many great ideas for the area, however when I would put these ideas into action, it ended up being a disaster! The large framed area that I thought would be an amazing centerpiece to our room, would remain untouched for the next five years!
It wasn’t until a few weeks ago we were introduced to Dezign with a Z, a company that specializes in wall decals and decorative wall stickers. In fact, the company makes wall murals that will cover an entire wall, and are custom designed just to fit your space!
We chose to go with this curly tree decal with orange leaves and custom ordered it to fit our space. We loved the zen look and feeling of the tree and we recently purchased two handmade lamps made of cocoa leaves that are orange and brown, so we had our tree custom designed to include the two colors. I know, it’s so 70’s!
The wall decal came in two separate sheets. One included just the leaves, and the other included the tree itself. Measuring the wall ahead of time made the process of getting the tree in just the right spot much easier, and we used a squeegee (available for purchase on the website) to ensure that the decal was nice and stuck to the transfer tape before continuing. This is a MUST, and without spending a few minutes doing this, you could have a very hard time transferring your chosen design.
Transferring the wall decal took a little more time than I had anticipated (about an hour from start to finish), however once the tree was up, we lined the leaves up with the included + signs (see below) and began transferring them on to the wall. Because the leaves are much smaller than the tree, transferring them took much longer, as the leaves did not want to stick to the wall like we had planned.
There was a lot of pushing and peeling, but once we were finished, we were thrilled with the results!
After five years of staring at an empty space, we now have our living room centerpiece as originally planned and we couldn’t be happier with how it looks. In fact, many of our friends that have visited our home recently thought that I painted it! They must not know me and my “not-so-June-Cleaver-like” ways very well!
