A New community of eco-savvy parents has emerged where you can swap your old clothes for new ones and all from the comfort of your home! The waste and consumption in the clothing & textile industry is truly distressing (23.8 billion lbs go into landfills each year!) and because kids grow so fast and wear outfits only a few times, they are often the culprits. ThredUP promises to change all that with a new site that offers clothes swapping at it’s best and it’s FREE!
What is ThredUP?
ThredUP is an online swapping community of Eco-conscious parents nationwide, taking “green” swapping to the next level. ThredUP does all the hard work that tends to make traditional kids clothing exchanges so tedious, like matching members, facilitating exchanges and monitoring quality. There’s no bidding, no rifling through consignment racks, and NO trips to the post office. All swaps are completed online from the comfort of home – making this program within reach for the busy lifestyles that families lead today!
How does it work?
Much like Netflix, YOU can choose a box of gently used clothes you would like to receive and you simply pay for shipping! You then agree to list a box of your children’s outgrown clothing and the boxed you have chosen will be sent out to you! Then, similar to Ebay, you list a virtual box of clothes that your child no longer wears. When someone picks your box, you send it free of charge (free for you to send)! ThredUP even arranges for USPS to pick it up at your house! ThredUP manages all quality control, the review process and takes care of all the details to ensure you get a quality exchange! That’s it!
