Last year we had the privilege of reviewing Micralite’s luxury stroller, the Micralite Toro, and I have to say I was more than impressed with the quality craftsmanship, amazing maneuverability and overall beauty of this stroller. In fact, we weren’t the only one’s impressed. The Micralite Toro was named the #1 luxury stroller by Consumer Reports and we continue to stand behind their claim!
With that being said, Micralite has recently introduced the long anticipated FastFold Superlite, offering parents of children 6 months +, many of the amazing features of the full sized Toro in a more compact and lightweight package!
About the Micralite FastFold Superlite
The Micralite FastFold Superlite Stroller has all of the features of a full-size stroller but functions as an umbrella stroller. Weighing in at only 14 pounds, the FastFold Superlite is a compact and ergonomic stroller that is easily maneuvered using only one hand. The sliding seat reclines for baby’s comfort or sits upright so your child can enjoy the views.
Lil’ Pea is now 2 1/2, yet still quite small and very rambunctious so we still use our stroller on a daily basis. With our recent tour of Southern California theme parks, we really had a chance to put this stroller to work and see just how well it integrated into our daily lives.
Maneuverability and Terrain - One hand is all you need with the Micralite Superlite.. really…just one hand! As I was coveting the FastFold Superlite for months, I read the claims that stated this stroller had amazing maneuverability, however when the stroller arrived, I was truly amazed at the small turning radias. When I say this stroller spins on a dime, I really mean that! With larger air-filled wheels in the rear and smaller swiveling and lockable wheels in the front, the Superlite can take on any type of terrain with ease and the air can be adjusted to suit specific terrain with the included air pump.
The Fold – I have quite a bit to say about the fold of this stroller! After all, the FastFold Superlite holds it’s name for a reason! However, I would like to point out a major design flaw with the large majority of umbrella strollers on the market today that Micralite has recently addressed, making their design superior to others on the market today. Forward collapsing umbrella strollers allow the sun canopy to touch the front wheels, making it next to impossible to keep the stroller clean. Every bit of dirt and muck that you just rolled over is now all over the sun canopy where little hands can touch it and it’s impossible to remove. The Fastfold Superlite is designed to fold inward, rather than forward. It literally shrinks inward in a matter of seconds (and with just one hand) with a simple squeeze of of the two quick release tabs and a quick pull upward. The Superlite automatically locks into place and offers two locking positions for those who may be really short on space and need to squeeze it into a small area. Once in the folded position the FastFold Superlite stands on it’s own and the wheels do not touch any other part of the stroller!
The Seat – The seat on the Superlite is made of breathable mesh and can be best explained as a sling. I’m really impressed with the sling design on this stroller as it literally hugs your child and we’ve found this feature, along with the two seat positions, create a comfortable ride that lulls children to sleep. In fact, Lil’ Pea found it to be so comfortable that many times she didn’t want to get out, so as you can see from the picture (left), when she wanted to see something, we just left her in the stroller and tipped her up so she could see! The mesh has proven to be priceless during the hot summers here (we see heat of up to 113 deg.) as it allows air to circulate around her entire body and I can literally dump a bucket of water over her and the stroller (don’t get any ideas here) and the mesh dries within a matter of minutes. For parents with smaller children or for those looking for a bit more padding, seat liners are sold separately and are available in a variety of eye popping colors.
Storage Basket – The FastFold Superlite comes equipped with a storage basket that is best accessible in the front, rather than the sides. The basket is not what I would consider to be large, however i have been able to stuff a few bags under there while shopping. There is a strap that runs along the center of the basket, making side access rather difficult, so parents will find that access to the basket is best through the front of the stroller.
Handles – The FastFold Superlite offers parents a stroller with fully adjustable handles and with the newly designed handlebar clamps, rotating the handles in just the right position can be accomplished within a matter of seconds. Handlebar extension are avilable and sold seperately, however I have to say that my husband does not kick the back of this stroller and he is just over 6ft tall!
Safety – The Fastfold Superlite is JPMA safety certified and comes equipped with a 5-point safety harness with quite a bit of padding in the crotch area, in an attempt to keep little one’s safe and comfy at the same time. With just one push, both sides of the safety harness pop out and baby is easily accessible in a matter of seconds. Double locking rear brakes can be engaged with just one foot and just like it’s big sister, the Toro, this braking system is the strongest I’ve experienced to date.
Additional Accessories can be purchased separately and include handlebar extensions, Rider, Maxi-Cosi & Graco Carseat Adapters, Seat Liners, Travel Bag and Rain Cover! Additionally, the FastFold Superlite comes with a 5 year manufacturers warranty with product registration!
Final Thoughts
With it’s amazing maneuverability, lightweight and compact design, the Micralite FastFold Superlite proves to be at the top of it’s class. The FastFold Superlite offers parents many of the features that can be found in a luxury stroller in a compact design that would be well suited for everyday use and travel! This is one stroller that I would purchase again and highly recommend to all of you!
