Years ago, my husband and I asked a very wise man how he raised such amazing kids. You know what he told us? Celebrate everything! Yes, that means the good and the bad. Celebrate their accomplishments, their disasters, their plans, and even that special time when they take off their diaper and smear poop on the wall (because even thought it may not feel like it at the time, there is a celebratory moment within this)!
The wise man’s words rang loud and clear with my husband and I, and we have tried to carry this philosophy with us the past seven years. School has always been a life activity that we have taken very seriously, and we have celebrated the first day tears, the stellar accomplishments on tests, the fear of the unknown, and the ups and downs of learning to thrive in a new environment. I will be the first to tell you that it hasn’t always been easy – especially when it comes to school.
With the new school year just around the corner for many, it’s time for families everywhere to celebrate the beginning of a new school year, and for some this can be difficult in more ways than one. Many children struggle with reading and math and it causes great anxiety for the child, and a difficult transition into the new school year. On the other end of the spectrum, many children find themselves bored with the current curriculum and need further stimulation to stay on track.
