If you are looking for a fabulous family movie this summer then Dr Seuss The Lorax is one that will delight everyone in the family. From the makers of Despicable Me Dr Seuss The Lorax is a highly entertaining adaptation of the book by one of the most beloved of children’s authors.
Here is a video trailer of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax
The story of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax is a simple one of boy tries to impress girl, with a serious environmental message as it’s background. 12 year old Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) is desperately trying to impress Audrey (voiced by Taylor Swift). They live in a world where everything is made of plastic. Audrey wants nothing more than to see a real tree rather than the synthetic ones that have long since replaced the ones which used to grow in the ground. Seeing his chance to win her heart, Ted goes on a quest to find what her heart desires.
Fortunately Ted has a very helpful Grammy Nora (Betty White) to help him. With her words of advice Ted leaves the plastic world of Thneedville and finds The Once-ler (Ed Helms) to tell him the story of how the trees disappeared from the land. He tells Ted about The Lorax (Danny DeVito) a creature who “speaks for the trees” and how it came to be that the world is now all man made without any natural resources.
Some would say that The Lorax does not remain particularly faithful to the original book. The original was a very simple story and for the movie a number of new characters have been created. But for us that really didn’t matter so much. It is in many ways sad to realize that this story was originally written in 1971. The message is so clear. Cut down too many trees and this has catastrophic effects on the environment.
The whole family really enjoyed Dr Seuss The Lorax. I confess that I am not a big fan of Dr Seuss but I really enjoyed this movie. The animation was strikingly colorful and fun, the story was one which everyone from young children to adults could appreciate. The humor in it had all of us laughing out loud – not something that happens too often in movies.
The Lorax of course reminded us of Despicable Me (it was made by the same filmmaking team at Illumination Entertainment and was directed by Chis Renaud with a screenplay by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul). You can even see a Minion from Despicable Me if you look closely enough.
Dr Seuss The Lorax is released on August 7th and is now available for pre order on Amazon
The movie is available on either 3D Combo Pack or Blu Ray Combo Pack with each set including a DVD, Digital Copy and UltraViolet so that you can watch it at any time.
There are lots of great extra features with the Combo Pack which include 3 Never Before Seen Mini Movies, Deleted Scenes, Behind the Scenes, Seuss to Screen and some fun games. We also really liked the UltraViolet and Digital Copies which are included ( on Combo Packs only). We watch movies on so many different devices these days it is great to have everything included.
