I am so excited to tell you about today’s Holiday Gift Guide suggestion, Oxfam America Unwrapped! Yes you can give a Donkey for Christmas! Oxfam America Unwrapped is a charitable organization unlike any you may have heard of to date! Gifts are nice but giving to others is heartwarming and something I hope you all will consider this Holiday Season!
What is Oxfam America Unwrapped….
Oxfam America Unwrapped is a national relief and development organization that helps those in need overcome poverty, hunger and injustice. Quite plainly put, they save lives! What sets Oxfam America apart from many other organizations is that they work independently, meaning they do not accept aid from the US government. Rather than providing short-term aid, Oxfam America works with local communities in an effort to create lasting solutions to poverty by focusing on the root cause of their issues, thus creating an opportunity for them to eventually help themselves.
Here’s how it works….
By visiting Oxfamamericaunwrapped.com you can pick a gift and sign a card that will go to your friend or family member. Your gift will then be set into action, helping to change the life of someone in need. The card that your gift recipient receives, will have a picture of the gift you purchased on their behalf! How cool…
Dear Mom,
I bought you a Donkey for Christmas this year!
Love Me!
Gifts….
The Gifts that you’ll find at oxfamamericaunwrapped.com start at just $12! For just $12 you can purchase manure that will then be sent to someone in need….what can they do with the manure? Organic manure increases crop yields and is cheaper, greener and safer than chemical fertilizers. Why not turn your $12 into some serious agriculture power! If you want to give a larger gift, you can send a dozen (eventually egg-producing) chicks for just $40, a goat or lamb for just $50 or go BIG with a Donkey for $100! You can even send a farmer’s flock that includes a cow and 2 sheep for only $150! Not into animals? That’s OK…send some school supplies for $25, a school desk and chair for $35 or train a midwife for $150. Now that’s a gift!
Our thoughts….
What a great idea! Give the gift of life this Christmas! Here’s what we did: We were really moved by Oxfam America’s outreach and decided to evaluate each and every one of our family members. Now, this type of gift won’t work for everyone, let’s just be frank. But, for some this type of gift is a heart warming feeling, knowing that they helped someone in need. A few of our family members will be receiving Christmas gifts this year in the form of a donation sent by Oxfam America. We were given a certificate for a dozen chicks from Oxfam America Unwrapped and Mom Central, so just by writing this post, we were given the opportunity to help change a life. We will be purchasing additional gifts this holiday season based on our budget that will then be given to family members. We’re thinking about a lamb and some crabs..yes I did say crabs! Crabs may be fun to look at and gross to touch for us here in the US, but in other countries they create a life-long money-making opportunity. To see how your gift will change the life of another, just visit http://www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/!
