I was first introduced to Backyard Safari Outfitters at the Team Mom brunch in LA a few months ago. I have to say I was rather intrigued by their “backyard safari” gear and I just knew that my girls would be thrilled to play with every item in their product line! When Team Mom recently contacted us to let us know that they would be sending a few items out for review, I was jumping up and down, knowing the fun my girls were about to have with these new toys. We received the following items for review:
The Bug Vacuum – Is this beyond cool, or what? There’s hundreds of little creatures crawling around in backyards everywhere and why not let the kids have a little fun and suck them up into the bug vacuum for close up viewing! The Bug Vacuum allows children to take a closer look at creatures big and small using the built-in magnifying glass and two different sized suction tubes. The capture core also works in conjunction with the bug habitat (sold separately) so you never have to touch the bugs (insert cringing here)! My girls were enthralled with the bug vacuum and the only problem I have at this point is that I need to go buy another one so they will stop arguing over it!
Cargo Vest – This is certainly the most important and essential item when your heading out on a backyard safari! The cargo vest allows children to role play and it’s functional at the same time. This vest offers plenty of cargo pockets, 6ix D-Rings and two shoulder epaulets allow you to clip and hang more essential gear. A large zipper pocket stores binoculars and a clear-view chest pocket stores the Pop-Up Field Guides that are included with Backyard Safari OUtfitter products. The back of the vest features a one-size-fits-all adjustable strap and two extra mesh pockets for storing extra gear. My girls dress up daily, so this is a huge hit in our house and for a little extra cuteness, it really pairs well with a bright orange and pink tutu (yes that was sarcasm)!
Land and Water Megaview Periscope – This is a really fun toy that allows children stealth viewing capabilities… like the neighbors backyard (oh my did I just say that?)! My girls use it to view things in the tree as they are too small to crawl up the tree just yet and the periscope stretches four feet in the air! It’s also proven to be quite fun in the pool! By simply turning the periscope over, my girls can place the periscope underwater and view all of the fun stuff going on under there without actually going underwater. I’m thinking this could be really fun inside lakes, although we have yet to try it. This is a fun one that even mom and dad enjoy!
Buy It!
These items and as well as many other items in the Backyard Safari Outfitters line are available for purchase online or at Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Target, ToysRus and Backyard Safari on Amazon

LOVE the bug vacuum. They should make a mommy-sized model too. I’d use it in the house instead of running in the other direction!
