Summer Time Fun with the KidKraft Outdoor Playhouse

You are here: Home / Reviews / Summer Time Fun with the KidKraft Outdoor Playhouse

May 9, 2011 //  by admin//  15 Comments

Each year as the weather begins to heat up, we are on the prowl for fun and engaging outdoor toys and activities to keep the girls busy. We have a small swing set that we purchased when Big Pea was two, and although the girls enjoy playing on it daily, they do get bored and look for other outdoor activities to engage in. This year the girls asked for a playhouse and thanks to KidKraft, we found the perfect one!

KidKraft Outdoor Playhouse
An outdoor playhouse is an exciting place to play. Let them create their own kid-sized special space and keep them occupied with outdoor fun. A cabin-in-the-woods look with shutters and a cute little mailbox, this play house even has two window pots and details that give it a real homey feel. There is a chalk-board name plate above the door to write the owner’s name. The solid wood weather-resistant construction and honey red roof demonstrate real value. Kids will cozy-up inside to share secrets.

Features:
– Door and wide windows that open and close
– Inside of house includes a sink and convenient storage space
– Mailbox with flag and chalkboard above door
– Large enough that multiple children can play at once
– Made of weather-resistant wood
– Sturdy construction
– 51.5″L x 46.25″W x 59″H

The Build

The outdoor playhouse arrived in two separate boxes and after reading multiple reviews online, we knew we needed 3-4 hours for full assembly and set aside the time to do so. All of the hardware needed for the build was neatly packaged in one plastic container (including a hex wrench), making it easy to find the pieces we needed for each step of the assembly. The instructions were very easy to follow and each piece of the playhouse was numbered, making each piece easy to find when needed.

We assembled each wall separately inside our living room, and took all four walls outside to fully assemble. Assembly of each wall took only about 20-30 minutes, thanks to KidKraft’s quality construction. After less than two hours, we had all four walls up, and the roof was ready to go on.

Features We Love

The Kidkraft outdoor playhouse features an adorable mailbox with movable flag, that the girls have already had loads of fun with. The indoor sink has a goose neck faucet and colored knobs for cold and hot that can be turned back and forth. The chalkboard above the door is an adorable added feature that allows children to label their playhouse how they see fit ( I’m pulling for the “No Boys Allowed” slogan), and the door can be secured once inside.

The puppet theatre allows little imaginations to come to life and host a puppet show for mom or dad, equipped with flowing red curtains! The two indoor shelves can be used as indoor storage to keep their house nice and neat, and the indoor shutters can be opened and closed to their hearts content.

I don’t know that I have ever seen a kids playhouse quite so cute!

We purchased a piece of outdoor/indoor carpet while at Costco (see pic below), and cut a piece to fit the interior of the playhouse. I think the piece of carpet just makes the playhouse a little more “home” like and the only problem at this point, is that I cannot get the girls out of it!

We found that the outdoor playhouse is big enough to hold two teenagers and two small children, making it large enough to have fun with, yet small enough to fit in a small backyard such as ours. We consider “Deal”ectable Dad to be a master builder, and he has built more than his fair share of children’s products. He says that this build will go down in history as one of the most enjoyable builds he has completed to date, thanks to the easy instructions, numbered parts, organized hardware, and precision cuts made at the factory.

Final Thoughts
From the quality construction and multiple engaging features, to the year-round possibilities thanks to the weather-resistant wood, we think the KidKraft outdoor playhouse is a must-have backyard accessory!

Buy It!
The KidKraft Outdoor Playhouse retails for $349.99 and can be purchased online.

Thank You to KidKraft for providing the outdoor playhouse for our review. My thoughts and opinions remain my own.

I have been looking at this playhouse online but there were NO PICTURES on the inside. THANK you so so much for taking indoor photos. It really does look roomy and I love the little faucet. My kids will love the mailbox. It is those details and the beautiful wood design that has been making me want to buy one for them. Thank you again, this review helped so much!

That is SO adorable… my favorite part is the little sink inside.
It looks so sturdy and yet simple to put together.
I know my grandson would LOVE one of those, I think maybe we’ll start saving now for a Christmas gift.
    Great review. =)

Wow, that is the prettiest little playhouse I’ve ever seen. It looks sturdy and almost like a real house compared to some of those plastic ones on the market. The price seems really reasonable too.

That is so cute! I love that it is sturdy and well made, I have seen too many kids playhouses that are plastic and junky and fall apart within a few years. We have been shopping around for a playhouse, and I love this one! Thanks!
