June is National Men’s Health Month + $100 GNC #Giveaway

June kicks off National Men’s Health Month, a Congressional health education program that is celebrated throughout the country with health fairs, screenings, media appearances, and many other health education and outreach activities! The goal is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.

My grandfather was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer last year, and it was such a scary diagnosis for not only him, but the family as well. He was fortunate that his doctors detected the cancer early (early detection is key!), however deciding on a way of treatment proved to be more difficult than any of us thought. When your life is hanging in the balance, and there’s a number of treatment options in front of you, it’s difficult to pick just one and hope that it works out in the end. Thankfully, after two hard, and very different treatments, he has been living cancer free for nearly a year now.

Unfortunately, that’s not where the battle ends. We see dips in his levels from time to time, signaling that the cancer may have come back. But, with nearly 2 Million Prostate cancer survivors in the US, we are hopefully that he will remain in remission. My grandfather now takes a large amount of vitamins and supplements to promote his well being and prostate health. He is vigilant about his health these days, and its our mission to keep it that way!

Get Involved
During the month of June you can get involved and support Men’s Health Month by wearing blue ( the official color of Men’s Health Month), planning a health fair (see more info here), fundraising for Prostate cancer, and creating awareness of Men’s Health Month. And, of course, don’t forget the special men in your life! Encourage them to have a yearly check-up, and ask their doctor if vitamins or supplements should be added to their daily regime.
