The Importance of a Healthy Breakfast + Dualit Toaster Prize Pack #Giveaway!

You are here: Home / Reviews / Giveaways / The Importance of a Healthy Breakfast + Dualit Toaster Prize Pack #Giveaway!

September 21, 2011 //  by admin//  547 Comments

As we settle into the school year, I have been so proud of both of my girls and their eagerness to spring out of bed in the morning and prepare for another day at school. My husband and I feel so fortunate that our girls have a love for school and a love for the morning hours that we have never known. Of course, everyone’s first and foremost thought is breakfast and it’s one meal we feel is of great importance.  Did you know that children who eat breakfast daily score higher on math tests and other academic areas, and help to maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of obesity?

The majority of mornings our girls reach for wheat toast or whole grain blueberry waffles, or in our house they are deemed “buttery waffles” – spread with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.  We have made a steadfast effort to have plenty of food choices in our home at all times, but ones that promote a healthy diet and promote those little brains to kick off their day in the best way possible. We use I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter because it tastes great, and it also contains 70% less saturated fat and 30% fewer calories than butter. Additionally, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter contains no hydrogenated oils, is cholesterol free and is an excellent source omega-3.

It’s easy to skip breakfast in the morning with everyone’s tight time constraints.  In fact,  one of the main reasons families skip breakfast is because there simply isn’t enough time in the morning.  A piece of toast, a glass of orange juice, a boiled egg (prepared the night before), or a quick bowl of cereal takes just a matter of minutes, and the benefits are all too apparent to ignore one of the healthiest meals of the day.  Appropriate planning, and a few “on-the-go” ideas beforehand (try I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray) can ensure that breakfast goes off without a hitch and parents can rest assured that they are helping their child lead a healthier lifestyle.

Win It!

We want to help you make toasty morning goodness and “buttery waffles” using I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, and get your little one’s day started off on the right foot each morning!  It is for this reason that we have teamed up with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter to offer one very lucky “Deal”ectable Mommies reader an amazing $350 Prize Pack that includes the following:

My daughter is 2.5 and we still haven’t introduced any of the sugary cereals. She often eats two breakfasts – one around 7 with her Dad and then with me at 9. Cereal at one and oatmeal with fresh ground flax seed at the next! I’ve always wanted a butter spreader that is worth $100!

my family is always on the run in the morning! Although i work full-time, i always make time to ensure my 3 kids get a healthy and balanced breakfast in the morning before they head to school. Breakfast varies from day-to-day for my kids. Someday, cold cereals, fruit, and OJ; hot cereals and fruit, or when time permits, they get pancakes and the works!

We are a busy family so we make sure that breakfast is something that we make time for. My daughter is 8 and knows that eatting the sugar cereal is a once in awhile thing. We half organic whole wheat toast along with a fruit every morning. Even if we arent hungry she knows ur body needs health stuff to keep going. Also I lead by example and try new foods. cause I wouldnt expect her to try something if I wont..lol

Hi – for my 4 yo son, we always make time in our morning schedule for breakfast. and he is now a pro and categorizing his food “healthy food” v “junk food”. options are typically, whole wheat waffles, cheerios, yogurt, fruit cups, egg with cheese, etc. Even the grocery store he will ask for sugary cereals, and I show him how I check the box label for sugar content and will let him know if its too much, over 9 grms. He’s learning how important it is to investigate the foods first then buy, then eat. And last but not least he gets a chewable vitamin “treat”. everything is a balance which is our mantra when grammie comes over with cinnamon rolls, etc. which is ok also. 🙂

Promoting a healthy breakfast is pretty easy for us – my 4 yr old daughter loves fruit, so a banana and peanut butter on toast is often her choice. or an apple with peanut butter. She doesn’t really like cereal…on the weekends when we are all home, pancakes, waffles, or bacon and eggs can never go wrong! We also love and use I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter…plus I have been looking for a new toaster because mine died!

I make sure my daughter has a healthy breakfast by making the preparation a fun activity for her and having a family breakfast every morning. She is much more excited to eat healthy when she can be a part of cooking and sees as all enjoying it together.

I keep lots of quick, healthy options in the pantry so there’s no choice to eat junk for breakfast. It’s so easy to too since we’re usually in a rush. I ask my daughter what she wants (giving her about 3 options from what I think is good for her) while she is getting dressed and have it ready when she’s done. She’s more likely to eat it if she thinks it was all her choice. Lol.

I just try to make sure my daughter eats something. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a typical breakfast food or not. If she wants leftover soup from last night’s dinner, I let her have it. I think it’s healthier for her to have a full tummy than an empty one.

My 2-year old daughter doesn’t like sugary breakfasts, probably because it’s not something she gets very often. I usually give her the choice between cold cereal or a bagel and fruit, or oatmeal. It makes me happy when she asks for healthy foods like yogurt and turkey (not my first choice for breakfast!), instead of pancakes or sweet breads. LOVING that toaster!!

We always put out fruit at breakfast. I also found that if the food is “cute” they are more likely to eat it. I make baked eggs in whole wheat toast cups in a muffin pan or throw a few colorful sprinkles onto a bowl of oatmeal. To my kids, appearance is everything!

As my husband says, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it fuels the body and gives you the energy you need” As a family of six, we make sure to incorporate a healthy beginning to each morning. During the week its oatmeals, granola bars, eggs, whole wheat toast, and whole wheat pancakes. During the weekends its primarily breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, bacon, and tortillias. Another important factor is making it a family routine by sitting down together and enjoying our time.

Eating a healthy breakfast is very important. I have two kids, one in 3rd grade and a 2 yr old. I always tell my oldest how important it is to eat a good breakfast. He has big tests coming up next week and we’ll be making sure he eats a good breakfast for sure. Fuel for the brain! My two yr old ALWAYS has toast with I can’t believe it’s not butter. That is his only breakfast he ever wants. I also include fruit and yogurt with it. My older son loves it on his pancakes and waffles. We use the toaster a lot in this house and this toaster would match our new kitchen!!!!!! LOVE IT!

I promote healthy breakfasts for our family by asking for input on our breakfast menu (which I use to plan shopping lists – it’s not an “order off the menu deal lol). Everyone gets to choose from a set of healthy options and add their choices to a menu date.

The truth of the matter is, I promote a healthy breakfast by getting us all up a little earlier than I thought we’d need to be up… We’re all slow to get moving in the mornings, and I find that the extra time ensures that the eggs/yogurt/fruit get eaten!

The healthiest thing I do is make sure they always eat a breakfast. I know too many families that don’t even eat breakfast! I give the kids a lot of options…cereal, pancakes, bagels, etc.

I promote a healthy breakfast with example by having a healthy one myself. My daughter and I eat together in the morning and we have an egg and toast with fruit or oatmeal and I explain things to her about sugar and protein and healthy and tell her that sugar ceral and pop tarts are treats they are not a breakfast they wont keep her full and healthy so she can play with her friends.

My kids are 18, 14, and 10 and it’s tough to find breakfast food to please them all. Thankfully, they like the cereal I buy which includes Cheerios, Raisin Bran, etc. and, if they have their favorites, they don’t reach for unhealthy sugary-laden foods.

We now make healthier breakfasts, by choosing healthier cereals, very low on sugar. Also switching things like butter with I can’t believe its not butter spread. We’ve switched from white bread to wheat bread, and are now looking into changing some of our foods with the gluten free versions.
