Recently i was given the chance to try out a new diaper cover on Siena from Bumkins. Many of you already know that we use two different types of diapers, Seventh Generation and Gdiapers. For those of you who are’nt aware, Siena had a rash issue that we could’nt figure out and we had to switch to cloth diapering.
I have never been a fan of the thought of washing poo from my diapers and therefore we chose to go with Gdiaper, because we could flush them! However, i was told that Gdiaper inserts worked well inside the Bumkins diaper cover, so we gave it a try.
First, i was impressed by all of the design choices. I’am big on “nice looking things”, so the fact that Siena’s bum looked ridiculously cute, won me over a little 😉 Bumkins has 25 different designs to choose from in their waterproof diaper cover.
Bumkins waterproof diaper is made of nylon with a waterproof laminate. Up to this point, i have only used to cloth diapers, so this was a new concept for me to take in. What if it leaked? Where would the liquid go? Well if this was a quality diaper, i suppose i would’nt have to worry about these questions.
I placed a Gdiaper insert inside the Bumkins Waterproof diaper cover and slipped it on Siena. Many of you are currently using Gdiapers, so it’s important to note that their is a front leak sheild in the front and the Gdiaper insert slips right into this pocket, as would a prefold or contour diaper. As i placed it on Siena i noticed that the cut of the diaper was just right. It was cut narrow enough to fit right in between her little legs without extra fabric bothering her. The diaper cover has a unique air vent system that keeps baby cool, by letting out heat, thus reducing the risk of rashes. *Bonus* Woo Hoo!
On the front of the diaper cover there is a long strip of velcro and the tabs can be placed anywhere on this strip to create a custom fit. The one thing i noticed is that the tabs are a bit stiff. However, i’am told with a few washes that these will soften up. As with any cloth diaper, it’s important to remember to cover the strip completely by the tabs when laundering to protect the velcro and keep it looking tip top.
I left Siena in the Bumkins diaper a little longer than normal (about 3 hours), so that i could really get a feel for it. After three hours, we had NO LEAKS and the Gdiaper insert was held in place right where i had originally placed it. Want to know what i liked the most? Because there were no leaks, i did’nt have to wash the cover! Ha! However, washing these bad boys seems pretty cut and dry to me. Because of their material, you can just rinse them off with a diaper sprayer or your good ol’ sink and their dry in just minutes. *Bonus*
I would definately recommend the Bumkins diaper cover to a friend (you)! They are super easy to work with, meaning little hassle for you. Just wait until you check out all of the fun designs. You won’t be able to pick just one!
