The Hair or the Eyebrow Ring?

FacebookTwitterPinterestAmazon Wish ListShare

I asked myself this question today as I confronted a teacher at my almost six year old’s cafeteria (and not her teacher, might I add), who had not only reprimanded my daughter right in front of me for being late to lunch (which is optional), but felt the need to reprimand me as well!  Is it the red and black hair that makes her feel as if I somehow must be uneducated and deserve such treatment or is the eyebrow ring that made her feel a need to talk down to me?

Some may say that it’s neither of the two, however I have racked my brain in attempt to figure out what I must be portraying to people in order to receive such treatment.  I’m college educated, well spoken, have a heart of gold, manage to properly run a business, have raised two healthy and what I consider to be happy children and most of all I’m kind!  I’m the first to lend a hand when it’s needed, the first to volunteer for just about anything and I smile at people all day long …every.freakin’.day.even.when.I.don’t.want.to!

I kindly asked the teacher what exactly she thought she was going to accomplish by attempting to embarass my daughter in front of her peers with something that was clearly not her fault (unless of course she learned how to drive herself to school) and furthermore what exactly she thought she was going to accomplish by telling me that “I need to try harder”!  Are you kidding me lady?  I’m a grown woman with two children who multitasks from the second I wake up in the morning to the second I hit the pillow and your going to tell me that “I need to try harder”?

Yea…well you can imagine how well that went over!

Let’s just say that my nice-ness didn’t work out so well and she let me know that she wasn’t repremanding, but rather reminding…as if I need a reminder to have my daughter to school on time…and let me just fill you in on how “late” we were to “lunch”…4 minutes!

It ended with a very rude apology from her and as I walked away she felt the need to very curtly say ” Have a nice day”!

YES! There was steam blowing out my ears but I had said my peace and arguing doesn’t get anyone anywhere….so I very kindly said “You Too”!

So  I just have to know or I’m going to go crazy….which one is it?  The hair or the eyebrow ring?

Wow. That’s crazy! I can’t believe a teacher would act like that. I’m sorry you were treated badly. I think you are awesome…hair and eyebrow ring included. :) <3

I chalk it up to some people being small minded and uptight. 4 minutes…pffft! That’s nothing! Keep on keepin’ on mama!

I don’t think it was either. Seems like that teacher has a bad attitude and a nasty personality. I would think she treats everyone that way. Who knows?! Glad you stuck up for your daughter!

So sorry to hear you and your daughter were mistreated by the teacher, 4 minutes is nothing! not mentioning there are just three more days left of school!! I’m glad you asked her what she was trying to accomplish with her attitude. You are one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I hope she learned something from you. *hugs*

That is terrible! I look young so I always get looked at like “Your a Mom?” I also have 4 tattoos although only one is showing, but I hate the judgements!

Next time, tell her not to get her panties in a bunch, then maybe she will think twice about trying to embarrass someone else for no freakin’ reason. She must have been having a bad day and needed to take it out on someone. But 4 minutes late to lunch, come on. That’s BS for her to have acted that way.

As an educated and very tattooed mom with black hair that gets dirty looks and rude comments everyday, I empathize with your annoyance.

I’d be in the front office having a discussion with the principal. She had no right to speak to you like that, especially since you said it’s optional to be there for that. Makes me wonder how she speaks to the children when adults are not around…
I do believe in “Kill them with kindness”, but I also believe in appropriate and respectful treatment of others. You deserve to stand up for yourself and for the kids whose voices are not heard.

I say screw em anyway.Even if it is the hair (which matches mine) or the ring (of which I have 6 ) it really shouldn’t matter. What gives ANYONE, ANYWHERE the right to think they know something about you based on how you look.People are full of ignorance and it is a waste of time to lower yourself to their standards ,even to try and figure them out.Congrats on keeping your cool though-I would have probably smacked her ( I think this is why I homeschool)

I think u handled that beautifully. The woman obviously has some insecurity issues. One does not treat others disparagingly unless there’s a screw loose behind the wheel! Next time , I say beat her with a stick!

The eyebrow ring..haha Love it..Was the teacher older then your or younger? Both can have their reasons for freaking out on you…but so so annoying and as a teacher myself I totally understand why some people hate us..ugh

Some people are so inconsiderate! They give teachers an awful reputation! I hope your daughter never has her as a teacher!
