If your a long time reader here, then you know I’m not Giada or Rachael Ray. We are a busy family with a lot going on and I don’t have two hours to spend on dinner at night, or even an hour, for that matter. I’ll even let you in on a little secret: I don’t steam vegetables *gasp*! Primarily this is because I have no idea how to actually steam them the right way and make them taste like something that a human being would actually enjoy eating. With that being said, we had the opportunity to check out the New Geroge Foreman Smart Kitchen Multicooker, which allows me to make a multitude of quick meals, steam vegetables and steam rice, all in one, single appliance.

Our family loves brown rice and mixed vegetables. I typically buy the frozen mixed vegetables at Costco and steam them in the microwave, in a small bowl with a lid, which proves to be rather messy. We do not eat brown rice as often as we would like to, because I seem to mess it up every time. No I’m not kidding (at this point it’s comical).
I followed the directions and used the included rice measuring cup and added the amount of rice that we needed. I then filled it with water using the water lines on the inside of the pot, to ensure I had just the right amount of water for the amount of rice I put in. Then I dumped the frozen vegetables in the upper steam basket and covered it with the lid. The controlls allowed me to choose white or brown rice and once set, you can leave and forget it. The multicooker will shut-off once it’s finished cooking.
Both the vegetables and the rice came out perfectly! The rice was evenly cooked and wasn’t too hard or too soft. I’m not sure I could ask for it to get much easier and this is one appliance that we will be utilizing multiple times a week!
What I Love…
– The multicooker includes digital controls and they are located on the plug-in probe and not the unit itself
– Timing meal items to be finished at the same time is now a thing of the past, as this appliance allows you to steam rice in the bottom half of the multicooker and vegetables, shrimp, chicken, etc. in the top steaming basket, all at the same time!
– Once removed from the plug-in probe can go from countertop to the table.
– 26 cup capacity, giving you enough space to cook for the entire family.

– adjustable steam vent that allows you to control the steam escape for perfect meals every time!

What I didn’t love..
I would have liked to have seen a recipe booklet included with multicooker. It’s hard enough knowing where to start with a new appliance and for me, it’s trial by fire. I like to try a few things that the manufacturer suggests, in order to get a feel for a new appliance and then apply my “not-so-slick-skills” from there.
