If you currently own your home, or like us, are looking to purchase, you may not want to skimp on the home warranty. To be very honest with you, home warranties weren’t exactly something that was on the forefront of my mind when we decided to take the leap and purchase a home. However, after a friend’s AC unit recently went out and she was quoted $5000 (yes, that’s 3 zero’s!!) to fix it, I quickly learned that purchasing a home warranty is a smart move, and one that could literally save me thousands of dollars!
Doing a little research beforehand will ensure that you choose the right plan and the right company. Take American Home Shield for example – they are the industry leader with over 40 years of experience, and have the know-how and financial backbone to honor their warranties. The company also allows you to use your plan as many times as you want during the term of your contract, and you simply pay a “trade service fee” to the contractor who services your home – typically ranging from $60-$100. American Home Shield will also replace a covered item if it cannot be repaired by a service contractor.
The most important part of choosing a home warranty plan is to ensure that you have read through the contract terms and you oblige with the terms and conditions should you need to use your plan in the future. I don’t know about you, but I like having the assurance of knowing that if something pricey decides to break in our home, it’s taken care of and I have to pay a minimal fee, while my home warranty company takes care of the rest!
