I spent the majority of the day yesterday managing the chaos that this baby possum has forced into our lives. I had a crew of 4 women come in and disinfect the entire house, of which now smells like a giant bottle of bleach. A tough one for all of us as we are “natural” cleaning folks through and through…sorry 7th generation! The cleaners will be followed up by carpet cleaners coming in to “disinfect” the carpet.
I’m sure your all wondering how it founds it’s way inside and how I forced him to find his new home..the outdoors! Truth be told I have no idea how the little guy found his way in. I have two guesses…one would be the dryer vent and the other would be the back door when one of the kids left it open. We do have a large mama Possum that frequents the backyard at night and this is apparently one of her young.
Getting it out…
That was interesting! He/she had crawled up the back of the oven and found a nice warm hole where he was very happily resting. After much coaxing on our “bug guy’s” behalf, he wasn’t budging! I stood by with a camera in an attempt to get a video of our “bug guy” screaming and jumping on the counter as it ran out…no such luck! Even “bug guy’s” don’t like possums! So we carried the entire oven outside and waited for the possum to vacate. Now I don’t know what anyone else would do, but I was quite adamant that the oven was NOT coming back into our home…so today I will be shopping for a new oven!
I also threw out ALL of the girls bedding just to be safe! They had fun picking out new bedding yesterday and did a great job of choosing bedding that matches the Wall Candy Arts tree on the wall! My little designers… I was so proud!
After all is said and done he will be considered the most costly “not-so-pet-like” friend we have dealt with to date. I do not HEART him, although I do have to say he was rather cute…well that is until he showed us his teeth and then emptied my wallet….

Oh my goodness! I have to tell you, that picture is adorable…but I can see where he wouldn’t be so cute once the teeth were out!

Sorry, there is nothing adorable about a possum in my opinion. They are ugly and mean. I am so sorry you had to deal with this. But hey, new bedding is exciting!

This reminds me of the time someone put a possum in my friend’s bathroom and she didn’t have a clue it was there. She went in to… well… do her business 🙂 and the possum ran across the floor in front of her. To this day I think she still gets heart palpitations just thinking about it!! 🙂
