I like to think that I’m pretty good at gift giving. I try to think of the person that I’m giving to and what they would LOVE to open, rather than what I, myself, may want. For instance, I would like to open a pair of warm and cozy pj’s on Christmas morning, while my husband would think that pj’s or anything else that doesn’t resemble a Lego, is just not fun! Getting my point here? Well, I may be a self proclaimed “fabulous gift-giver”, however I am at a complete loss when it comes to stocking stuffers!
Now the way I see it is they must be small enough to fit into the stocking, which eliminates DVD players and shoes. Now I can move on to the finer things in life, such as chocolate and peppermint bark…these are good stocking stuffers, right? Well what about something that doesn’t make your waist line expand? I could of course, use my deal seeking skills to give the gift of beauty this Christmas, such as the free IsaDora Liplight lipstick you can score with the StrawberryNet deal, or perhaps a nice bottle of cologne for the hubby that I scored at one of the daily deal sites. Beyond this…I am lost!
HELP!
I think I can handle the kids stockings, however everyone else is going to get chocolate covered coal if I don’t come up with some “small” ideas! So please leave a comment and let me know what you’ll be stuffing in your stockings this year!
Steph
Socks, underwear, gum, makeup, keychains, dvds, video games, books, stuffed animals, pens shirt those were all things we got in our stockings as kids. Hope that helps a little!
Candace
OOh that’s quite the list and much of it is very useful! Thanks for the great advice Steph!
Jessica
If your husband likes legos they make the best toy kits that are small, they would fit in the stocking great… I am giving small tools and some homemade chocolates
Candace
Great advice Jessica…thank you! Homemade chocolates? You are my hero 🙂

I think vouchers for things from Groupon, Eversave etc are good ideas for stocking stuffers for adults. I even give my kids them, such as the silly bandz Groupon from a while back. My son loves to pick out his own things online and will do a way better job than I would picking things like that out. Just make sure that you get something that the shipping is included. I also look for video games, little toys for my hubbys desk at work that would seem silly given on thier own but work great as a stocking type of gift. Cheap movies bought on Black Friday, free photo planners from snapfish with their kids pictures (stolen off their Facebook wall of course) and free nicer items that that person would enjoy from the drugstores are all great stocking stuffers. I even save some of the freebies we get all year just for this purpose. My son will be getting the light up UFO keychain in his and my hubby will be getting a sunglass care kit (he loves stuff like that) from Sunglasshut etc. Doesn’t really matter what you put as long as its as you said “very them”.
Candace
Love, love, love the Groupon idea and I would have never thought of that one! Oh and the stolen FB pics on a calendar is SO creative. Going to have share that one on our FB fan page!

Hubby has gotten Swiss army knife, gift cards, bottle opener, lottery ticket, basically any misc stuff.
Candace
Addison I love the lottery ticket idea…what’s better than the uncertainty of money in the form of a scratcher 🙂

I like putting things we need in my husbands and my stocking, so it fills it up and I’m not really wasting $ on things we don’t really need. I put in razors, tooth brushes, shave gel, soaps, makeup, nailpolish, travel size things, socks, underwear, nylons, or travel sized items. I also like putting in cashews in my husbands stocking. I know those aren’t FUN things but they fill it up and we all need them! What about sunglasses or hair accessories?
Candace
Hair accessories are a great suggestion. My girls use a ridiculous amount of “hair accessories” and love bows! Thanks for the great suggestions.
Julie
Or even a magazine or book! I also like putting car air fresheners and candles in mine!
Candace
Julie…candles are a unique idea and who wouldn’t love to get their favorite magazine rolled up inside! Thanks for sharing!

One thing that I usually use for adult stocking are the little kit things found by the cash register at Borders or Barnes and Noble.
Candace
I love “those things”! They always have the cutest little sets by the register for around $4.95…great idea Erica..thanks for sharing!

What about some fancy k cups for the coffee machine that are only his to use. Since he is not a fan of clutter this makes it difficult. You could have the girls make coupon books! You know with things like, Good for one hug, or I well clean my room. I found templets on line printed them out let James color them and done.
Candace
Alison…awesome ideas! K-cups are always a hit 🙂

It’s cold where we are so my hubby is getting things like the eco-friendly travel mug by Copco (BB&B sells them – they’ve got the ones for cold drinks too), a winter hat, cd’s and then of course some essentials (toothbrush, razors, etc). What about an ornament? My kids and all my nieces and nephews get a new ornament every year so when they eventually “leave the nest” they have a great start to decorating their own trees! Shutterfly has also been offering free soft cover photo books once in a while – you just pay the shipping…similar to the calendar idea that was mentioned. Good luck!
Dana
BATTERIES! I wrap up the batteries for all the new gadgets that are under the tree and place them in the stockings! Plus lots of practical stuff and a new Old World ornament for the next year’s tree for everyone!
Emmy
I had never done stockings with my boyfriend before, but we decided to this year so I’m a newbie. Some things that come to mind are a flashlight, gloves, handmade soap, a homemade coupon book of favors, like wife will take out the trash for you 1 day, or 1 free massage, etc. a memory card, flash drive, gift cards, cds, dvds.
Jennifer
There is always, always chapstick in the stockings since we never seem to have enough in the winter, and also the traditional orange tucked into the toe. Other useful more adult options that can sometimes be snatched up for a bargain are USB drives, sudoku or crossword puzzle books, fun sticky note pads, nice pens, small candles, batteries (especially if they’ll need them to go with a gift), sharpies, chopsticks and pocket packs of tissues.

Last year I bought all kinds of crazy things to fill up my husband’s stocking from Dollar Tree. Zip ties, velcro cord ties, work gloves, car wash sponges. Not an every year thing, but they’ve been pretty handy to have around the house. Then usually undershirts/underwear (I never put the whole package in–takes up too much room), Reece’s trees, maybe a book or dvd. He always puts a gift card to a restaurant in mine. 🙂

Let’s see in the baby’s stocking (9 months) I put a couple of leggings I plan to convert to babylegs and I am going to pick up maybe some little people or something else. For my older girls (almost 4 and almost 3) I put pencils, erasers, some candy, flash cards and I might pick them up a small action figure or two and maybe some Littlest Pet Shops

Growing up my stocking was the first thing I got so it a lot of times had things like crayons, markers, chalk and candy. However for my husband it was the last thing, so he would tend to get “nicer” things. I do a combination when possible. I opt for DVD, CD’s, Video Games, Jewelry, Pens, Art supplies, fuzzy socks, makeup and candy.
