How To Reuse Old Greeting Cards!

You are here: Home / Random Rants / How To Reuse Old Greeting Cards!

July 26, 2011 //  by admin//  2 Comments

I have always thought of cards to be a very special momento.  A card not only says how a person feels and thinks about you, but the written words within it express deep love, gratitude, happiness, or even a shared sense of sorrow in some occasions. In most instances, when I give someone a card, I try to write something meaningul, honest and true.  A card is but a card without the sentiment within it and it is for this reason that I cannot find the strength to part with them!

So in my closet sits a box of cards.

Yes it is a box that takes up room in the closet, and yes that part of it drives me nuts.  I’m not one to hang on to “things” and on any given day you can find mein a state of constant purging for fear of building up too much.  So I was brainstorming ideas of what I could do to preserve those precious memories, thoughts and heartfelt wishes within Christmas cards and Birthdays cards, yet at the same time get rid of that darn box!

Here’s what I came up with:

Chop and Scrap – I know there are plenty of you who like to scrapbook and there’s no better way to get rid of that box faster than to cut a picture, saying, or image from your favorite heartfelt cards.  If you have loads of photo cards, that makes it even easier and you could dedicate an entire scrapbook just to those treasured words found within cards.

Choose to Reuse – Why not reuse that heartfelt card and give it back to the original sender with a new note of how much the card and the words within it meant to you.  I have actually seen this idea put into action and families have started circles where they give cards back and forth to each other!

Get Crafty – Turn those old gift cards into keepsake items such as homemade ornaments, boxes, luminaries, mobiles and more.  You could even use a number of the images from those old cards and create a framed collage!  The possibilities are really endless…well you may need a bit of a crafty touch!

I love the idea of chop & scrap! I have tons of cards that I don’t want to part with.

I have a ton of saved Christmas cards that have pretty pictures on the front, but are blank on the inside cover. I’ve always thought I could cut the cards in half and use the front sides as postcards.
