My husband and I have been together for nearly nine years this Holiday season. We were friends for three years before that, and apparently one Christmas Eve night nearly nine years ago, sparks flew, and 2 kids later, here we are. To say he is my best friend would be an understatement. I’m not the easiest person to live with, and my flaws come through daily, yet he has stuck it out with me and I’m grateful that I have him each and every day.
What you may find a bit shocking is that he doesn’t wear a wedding ring, and not for the reasons you might think. First of all, this has never bothered me (shocking, I know!). He simply doesn’t like jewelry of any sort and although wearing jewelry truly bothers him. What has bothered him for some time now, is the fact that he has no way to outwardly show others that he is married. I don’t particularly see a problem with this, but apparently he does.
Enough said!
Only problem is, he doesn’t want to wear an actual piece of jewelry and would rather have a thin, plain band, made of tungsten or titanium. Tungsten wedding bands are said to be virtually indestructible and have a comfortable fit. I know many people who wear black tungsten rings, like the ones found at MensTungstenOnline.com, and although I don’t think that’s exactly what he’s looking for in a wedding band, I guess I can see the benefits. Titanium rings on the other hand are said to be the only element possessing the strength of steel, yet is also very lightweight and said to be quite comfortable.
Both are very low in price and it seems there is a sea of which to choose from, however I’m not quite sure which way to go. If you have tungsten or titanium jewelry, please leave a comment below and weigh in on how we can find a ring that is both attractive, strong and comfortable for him to wear!
My husband has a titanium ring and really likes the fact that it’s lightweight and comfortable. Also, when we were ring shopping (nearly 10 years ago) we found the titanium rings to be significantly cheaper. Good thing we went with the cheaper version because we’ve already had to replace it when he accidentally left it on his car bumper!
The ring has held up to many years of wear, and still looks great!
I had the same philosophy as your husband. I wanted a plain, nothing fancy band that would hold up.
I went with this titanium ring:

It’s very lightweight and very comfortable. The only thing that I don’t like is that the “brushed” finish scratches very easily.
So if you go w/ titanium, I’d recommend against the brushed style.
My husband and I have been married 5 years and he went with tungsten (not black though). He chose tungsten because it IS indestructible, super soft and comfortable. He was not into jewelry, either. The biggest benefit is thart it looks exactly like it did five years ago. Nt a single scratch on it, but the downside is that you cannot get it re-sized. If you don’t anticipate your husband gaining or losinng a lot of weight anytime soon, it is not a big deal.
This probably does not help as now you have one vote for each! Good luck!
My husband was afraid to go with anything that can’t be cut off if he has a hand injury and his finger swells.
He’s a carpenter, so the chance he could sustain such an injury is quite high.
We ended up going with platinum because it can be cut off in an emergency.
I think titanium cannot be cut – not sure about tungsten. But it’s something to consider if your husband works with his hands at all.
